Renaud Pianet is a senior fisheries biologist working for more than 25 years in the field of tuna fisheries, fisheries statistics and biology, exploitation and population dynamics. He has widely contributed to the setting up of the tuna fisheries monitoring network in the tropical Atlantic and in Indian Ocean and has taken an active part in regional tuna fishing organisations: ICCAT (International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tuna), IOTC (Indian Ocean Tuna Commission) of which he chaired the Permanent Scientific Committee from 1998 to 2002, and the SPC (South Pacific Commission). His research mainly aims at better assessment and management Thunnidae stocks. Based in France, he has coordinated various projects funded by the DG Fishing.
