Objectives

Training activities are envisaged to accompany the developments that will be made during the project. However, firstly a work of assessing training needs will be undertaken. The Co-ordination Activity is seen here as a catalyst. The medium-term objective is to allow a better appropriation and diffusion by key people of the tools and concepts handled during ISTAM.

Work

The training needs will be identified and prioritised during the initial meeting. In principle training sessions are planned on the following subjects:

Assessment of the quality of monitoring systems.
Management of fisheries databases.
Assessment of trash fish discards and by-catches.
Map production.
Assessing and producing a report on the state of resources.
Coupled models of exploitation dynamics and resources.
Logistics of a monitoring system and its working (role and functions of the surveyors and observers).
Observing and/or surveying. Being an observer often needs prior appropriate training.
